Fighting sparrows

Fighting sparrows

as crows gather sticks for nests

and magpies swooping

Fans purr in orchards

Fans purr in orchards

factories accompany

I can hear the fog

Angry crescendo

Angry crescendo

chirping and swooping attacks

window reflection

The frogs have all croaked

The frogs have all croaked

as birds fly fast to fight and fuck

lawnmowers cut through

Seeking winter meals

Seeking winter meals

the white-plumed honeyeater

followed by blackbird

Diesel joins a cloud

Diesel joins a cloud

as streetlights fade into day

rumbles never stop

Out in the darkness

Out in the darkness

melodies with hairpin turns

blackbird songs return

Behind me trees squeak

Behind me trees squeak

we dance between the branches

as the fantail leads

Sitting quietly

Sitting quietly

reading the flickering flames

as frost paints the lawn

River reflection

River reflections

a seduction by sunlight

submerged rocks waiting

In the high country

In the high country

fog rising from cold valleys

life among the clouds

Fathers on the road

Fathers on the road

locking flocks of wild offspring

I run with emu

Pearly-white landscape

Pearly-white landscape

a photograph of ghostly grass

reflecting first light

Feeling all alone?

Feeling all alone?
Waiting to be understood?
Read more poetry!

Dawn brings a red glow

Dawn brings a red glow
Venus peeks from behind clouds
mosquitoes greet me

Faint sound from the wind

Faint sound from the wind
whistling through the window frame
the locked doors are mocked

Return to routine

Return to routine
helping kids pack their school bags
find lunch from last year

Their nervous chatter

Their nervous chatter
corellas over the pool
white wings reflect blue

Waking to raindrops

Waking to raindrops
lower temperatures forecast
a sense of relief
mingles with disappointment
knowing I won’t go swimming

Cockroach tanka

Every morning
a cockroach trapped in the sink
beautiful creatures
though quick with boiling water
it feels wrong to make them die

Through the veil of night

Through the veil of night
an urgent trail on my face
taste of sweet kisses

Long as summer days

Long as summer days
made longer moving slowly
avoiding sunlight
